The Rev. Maria+ Simmons, Deaconess

The Rev. Jim+ Hood, Deacon
Dove Tree Anglican
Church and Ministries
Born of Irish/Cherokee parents
in February of 1937, I inherited a great heritage from both my ancestral
trees but when I was “born again” of the Great Holy Spirit, I received an
even greater heritage paid for by Jesus Christ Himself, shedding His own
Blood for me on the tree of Calvary.
I was converted Easter Sunday,
1955 and started preaching soon thereafter. That same year I received the
Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Lord later giving me the gift of
interpretation and several other gifts evidenced themselves through my
ministry as I obeyed God.
A bachelor of Sacred
Literature was earned at Holmes Theological Seminary in 1964 where I taught
and received my first pastorate outside Greenville, S.C. where the seminary
was located. I am currently studying for my Th.B. at the Alpha and Omega
Theological Colleges located in Luverne. AL. I also received my call to
native peoples ministry in Bible Class of 1963. God directed me back to
Birmingham, Alabama in 1969 and I became affiliated with another Pentecostal
group where I met my bride, Jane Williams Hood; we were married in June of
1976. I accepted a pastorate in Talladega, Alabama in 1977 and served there
until we became members of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama in May 1981.
Elected as co-chair of the Elders Council of “Hawks in the Wind” in 2004.

The Rev. Barbara+ Bender, Deaconess
barben11@aol.com
Barbara is the secretary and sits on the Board of Directors for Bright
Morning Star Mission. She is also the treasurer for the Foreign Missions
Fund for Alpha and Omega Archdiocese.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she moved to Alabama in 1960, attended Jefferson
State Jr. College; married her high school sweetheart in 1967. Her one and only
son was born on D-Day in 1972--he is now married with two precious daughters.
She moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1978 and was an active member of Explorer
Bible Study for three years at which time Wayne, her husband, was transferred to
Huntsville, Alabama, where she joined Bible Fellowship. She served in a
Leadership role for six years. She had a calling from God to begin a new bible
study called Community Bible Study. Wayne's health, as well as his dad's, got
worse and her mother was very ill so we found ourselves moving back to
Birmingham. I received a call to join the Community Bible Study in Mountain
Brook. Within a year she received training for the Children's Ministry. They
were expanding to the Center Point area and she became Assistant Children's
Director.
For nine years she worked teaching in the bible based kindergarten and day
care. After a total of eleven years (two years as a group leader) she felt the
need to help with the care of her father-in-law who had a stroke and was
paralyzed on the right side. she has had the calling of God since she was very
young but never understood what God meant to do with her life--"I was like
Moses" she says, "wondering in the desert. It has taken all these years and
taking care of three parents and a continual call from for me to finally
get the message." Her greatest challenge was teaching a class of 79-90 year
olds--they requested her to teach their class because they liked the way she
taught after hearing her speak at a Sunday service. She taught a class of 30-50
age group and 7th grade along with children's church.
